I take photographs and use them as a guide to draw the portrait by hand. If several children are in the portrait, a number of images are collaged together to make the composition. On approval, the drawing is accurately cut into birch ply. The board is painted with several layers of specialised paint and the channels filled with hand mixed coloured clay to create a smooth and stable surface. They are basically made using a rout and fill technique with a computerized router and coloured clay.
